Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 is a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to be elected vice president and she is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was appointed district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for reforms to healthcare as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal and the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her most well-known accomplishments are her sharp questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
